Journey Through the Gizzverse: King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard Headline Wide Awake Festival

We are beyond excited to announce that King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard are taking the helm as the headliners of Wide Awake 2024. Born in Melbourne’s vibrant music scene, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard started as a group of friends jamming together and have now become one of the most impressive and experimental contemporary rock bands.

This eclectic band, comprising of Stu Mackenzie, Ambrose Kenny-Smith, Cook Craig, Joey Walker, Lucas Skinner, and Michael Cavanagh, are bringing the Gizzverse to Brockwell Park on May 25th, 2024.

Refusing to confine themselves to the constraints of one genre, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have released albums in almost any genre you can think of. Over the past 25 albums, King Gizz have explored psychedelic rock, garage rock, surf rock, psychedelic pop, synth-pop, heavy metal, thrash metal, sludge and more. From their 2011 EP ‘Willoughby’s Beach’ which showcased the band as young surf rockers to their most recent synth-based masterpiece ‘The Silver Cord’, each album is a unique work of art dissimilar to what came before. KGATLW has a reputation for releasing music at a wild pace. In 2017, they released five albums, in 2022 they released five more, with three of them released in October alone.

The intricacies of their music have attracted a global fanbase of dedicated Gizzheads, with fans piecing together clues of a parallel universe that the band has created. This parallel universe, dubbed the Gizzverse, explores themes of sci-fi and worldly destruction, with each album connected to the others. Join us at Brockwell Park on May 25th for a journey into the infinite realms of the Gizzverse.

Wide Awake has always been a platform for grassroots music and a celebration of counterculture. This headline show has been a long time in the making. Keith Miller, Wide Awake Co-Founder and Booker, said: “We’re so delighted to finally nail down King Gizz! It’ll be 10 years since I first saw them in the Shacklewell when they hit the main stage. We’ve tried to bring them over every year, and they were our most requested acts from our fans survey. I caught them up at Manchester Psych Fest in September and it was unreal. You will not be disappointed!”

Matching the excitement, King Gizzard frontman Stuart McKenzie said: “Fkn pumped to be back in London Town for all you beautiful people”.

You might be thinking, where do we go from this insane headliner? But Wide Awake 2024 is shaping up to be another unbelievable year showcasing the very best in leftfield Indie, Post Punk, Electronica, Techno and more across a line-up you won’t find anywhere in London. Wide Awake promises to be an unforgettable experience, a celebration of music, creativity, and innovation so grab your tickets now!
